A living experience with grandeur
Whoever enters the future Courthouse steps into a world where historical grandeur comes back to life. The façade will be fully preserved and subtly illuminated, ensuring that the monument retains its stately character even in the evening. The range of residential units is remarkably diverse: from studios and duplexes to one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments and exclusive penthouses. In addition, the project provides space for three retail units, a green inner courtyard and hospitality establishments. The development of this prestigious project is in the hands of project developer Kolmont, which is relying on Cordeel Group for the first phases of the construction works.
The construction site: from demolition to reconstruction
The works began in September/October 2024 with the demolition of the internal structures, while the historical façade was carefully preserved. Today, the construction site is in a crucial phase: the pouring of concrete for the walls and the underground floors. This phase forms the backbone of the new structure and requires precision, expertise, and high‑quality materials.
It is in this context that Construx Rental, commissioned by subcontractor Cordeel, plays an important role. As a specialist in formwork systems, Construx provides the technical solutions needed to execute the complex concrete works safely and efficiently.
The contribution of Construx Rental
For the walls around the entire exterior perimeter, the Construx Tricon steel panel formwork is used in combination with Construx push‑pull props. These walls are poured single‑sided in sections of 12 linear meters each, with an impressive formwork height of 8.10 meters. The push‑pull props play a crucial role: they transfer the concrete pressure from the wall to the anchors in the floor slab and ensure stability during the pouring process. Thanks to their modular design, types A, B and C can be used individually or combined, depending on the height of the walls to be constructed.
In addition, Tricon 270 is used for all columns and concrete walls from level –2 up to the underside of the slab on level –1. The Tricon steel panel formwork is a robust and versatile system developed, produced and rented out by Construx itself. With a pressure resistance of 80 kN/m² and a relatively low weight, the panels are ideal for construction sites where efficiency and quality must go hand in hand. The Tricon wall panels come in 3 heights (3300 mm, 2700 mm and 1200 mm) with 7 widths each (2400 mm, 1200 mm, 900 mm, 720 mm, 600 mm, 300 mm and 240 mm). In this project, the 2700 mm panels are used modularly, offering flexibility for both small and large concrete structures.
For pouring the floor slabs between levels, the Easydeck slab formwork system from Construx is used. This system is also modular, lightweight, and suitable for slab thicknesses up to 500 mm. The panels are available in standard lengths of 900 mm or 1800 mm and standard widths of 450 mm or 900 mm. The Easydeck slab formwork is combined with the Construx PGD props, which have a range of 1820 mm to 5500 mm and can support an allowable load of 2 tons in all positions. This combination guarantees stable and reliable support during the pouring of the floor slabs on levels –1 and 0.
A future that honors the past
The Old Courthouse Of Hasselt project is a prime example of how heritage and modern construction techniques can strengthen one another. Thanks to the collaboration between Kolmont, Cordeel and Construx, a residential environment is being created that is not only luxurious and contemporary, but also remains deeply rooted in the history of the city. The careful restoration, the innovative construction methods and the high‑quality formwork systems together form the foundation for a new future for this iconic building.
